As a K-State Wildcat, Nelson was a consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist. A walk-on in 2003, he shattered K-State and Big 12 conference reception records. Now entering his second year as a wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers, Nelson has tallied 470 yards, 40 receptions and 3 touchdowns.

Nelson will be available for autographs and pictures. Wildcats and Cheeseheads also will enjoy cheese and pepperoni sticks from K-State’s Call Hall Dairy Bar. Nelson’s appearance is sponsored by Briggs Auto Lane, a participating KansasStateCars.com dealer and the area’s leading supporter of community activities.

Cars for Cats auto auction program to raise funds for K-State

A new fundraising program is helping alumni, fans and friends drive support for Kansas State University in a unique way.

The Cars for Cats program, a partnership between Purple Wave Auction and KansasStateCars.com, enables automobile owners to use Purple Wave Auction – at no cost – to sell their vehicle and easily donate the sale’s net proceeds to the K-State fund of their choice through the KSU Foundation.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for folks who need to find homes for vehicles they no longer use or need while contributing funds to help continue the tradition of excellence at K-State,” said Russ Briggs, president of Briggs Auto Group and founder of KansasStateCars.com. “We’re committed to giving back to the university in many ways, and we’re excited to partner with Purple Wave Auction to help manage this program and generate support for K-State.”

KansasStateCars.com selected Purple Wave Auction as the program’s official auction service due to a shared commitment to K-State and extensive auction network.  Purple Wave Auction was founded by K-State alumni and employs many K-State students and graduates. With an extensive online auction service and auction locations across several states, the company is “on the leading edge of traditional auction.”

“Our robust auction services give K-Staters the optimal opportunity to expose their vehicles to prospective buyers and obtain a fair market value,” said Aaron McKee, founder and CEO of Purple Wave Auction. “Our auction specialists are among the best and will help each seller prepare their vehicle photos and description to optimize its potential selling price on the auction block.”

As K-State supporters, Purple Wave Auction has agreed to waive all seller commission fees for the automobiles auctioned through the Cars for Cats program. This allows the seller, or donor, to distribute the full amount of the vehicle sale’s net proceeds to K-State through the KSU Foundation without any out-of-pocket expenses or reduction to the donation.

The KSU Foundation will issue each seller a receipt for their donation, and sellers may deduct the net proceeds of the vehicle sale as a charitable donation on their income taxes.

“Cars for Cats is an ideal way for alumni and friends of K-State to contribute the proceeds from a vehicle auction to K-State,” said Alan Klug, chief financial officer of the KSU Foundation. “Donors may designate any college or program at K-State to receive their funds. Contributing the proceeds from a vehicle auction helps K-State grow and generates a charitable deduction for the individual’s income tax.”
